The Pan-African Surgical Healthcare Forum I 2023 

"Bringing together policymakers, clinicians, researchers, development partners and advocates in a unified effort toward achieving equitable and sustainable surgical healthcare systems across the continent"

The inaugural PASHeF forum was a two-day consensus conference of technocrats from African Ministries of Health to discuss challenges, share experiences, and collectively chart the path forward for Africa. The conference took place at the Marriot Hotel, Kigali, Rwanda, on July 13 and 14, 2023 organized in collaboration between with Smile Train and the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE), Center for Equity in Global Surgery (CEIGS) hosted by the Honorable Minister for Health of Rwanda. The forum theme focused on national surgical healthcare policies and plans, and included plenary sessions, breakout group discussions, a consensus exercise, and networking breaks.

Participants 

Delegates from 53 African Countries were extended invitations, and 42 delegates from 32 countries, representing their respective Ministers of Health, attended the conference.

Plenary Sessions

The plenary sessions included presentations from leading experts in the field of surgery, global health, and health policy, providing insights into the current state of surgical care in Africa and strategies for improving surgical care.
