The Policy Lab

Background

PASHeF is training Ministry of Health surgical desk officers and technical focal points across Member States through its Policy to Practice Fellowship and LEADSurg program. The programme currently produces trained individuals, however, PASHeF does not track progress. The Strategic Plan commits PASHeF to creating dedicated surgical healthcare sections within Ministries of Health and to supporting governments to integrate surgical planning into national health security and universal health coverage policies. Converting the Fellowship from a training course into a delivery mechanism is the most direct route to that commitment. When this project is written PASHeF is recruiting the next Policy to Practice fellows.

Objective

To ensure every Fellow completes the programme with a signed, costed, ministry-owned Implementation Compact that has survived structured peer and expert challenge and to track progress.

PASHeF aims to improve surgical healthcare in Africa by bringing together policymakers, clinicians, researchers, and advocates to address issues such as political commitment, health service delivery, and national policies.
