Lillian Mwape, BSc, MSc

Lillian Mwape is the Principal Nursing Officer, President for Peri-Operative Nurses Association of Zambia (PONAZ), Executive Committee member for PASHeF, Vice President of TORG- Zambia Chapter, and Country Representative for Zambia working with the SADC TEWG. She is also the former Chairperson for Clinical Practice for ECSACON Zambia Chapter and has 16 years of rich experience in surgery, Policy analysis, Strategic Planning, Medical and Surgical supplies, Med-Surg Product specifications, and Key Operational Management. Lillian is a graduate of the University of Zambia and a Fellow in Global Surgery at the University of Cape Town.
Other roles that Lillian has played include: Acting Chief Nursing Officer for National Heart Hospital for 1 year. Prior to this appointment Lillian was Theatre Superintendent at Women and Newborn Hospital where she gained experience in managing and leading perioperative care in maternal health in Zambia with a focus on lobbying, advocacy, capacity building, and partnership with the private sector. Her contribution in promoting Surgical Health has been recognized by both the Private sector and the Government. In 2022 during the International Nurses Day celebrations, Lillian was awarded for distinguished contribution to operationalization of the National Heart Hospital, and 2024 appointed as Country Representative for the SADC TEWG by the Ministry of Health Zambia.
Locally, Lillian currently serves on various committees, she is the MOH Program Officer of Medical and Surgical Supplies, NSOAP Zambia, Nurse Leaders, and ECSACONM Zambia Chapter. Internationally, currently works with PASHeF, TORG, ECSACONM Perioperative Team, SADC TEWG, American College of Surgeons, and previously worked with Global Surgery Project Scope.
Her skills and her active participation in surgical activities at all levels has been instrumental in raising awareness at local and global levels. Her outstanding skills in advocacy has led to surgical policy strengthening in Zambia and in the region.
