Professor Faustin Ntirenganya is a senior consultant in General Surgery and a consultant Plastic and Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK). He serves as Associate Professor of Surgery and Head of the Department of Surgery at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Rwanda.
He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree and completed his General Surgery residency at the former National University of Rwanda. He pursued advanced training in Breast, Oncoplastic, and Reconstructive Surgery at the University Paris IX, France, and completed a Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa. Professor Ntirenganya is also an alumnus of the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa PhD Fellowship.
Professor Ntirenganya has published widely in local, regional, and international peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research at numerous international conferences. His academic and professional excellence has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the 2010 ASGBI Surgical Foundation Award and the 2013 Mammadi Soudavar Travelling Fellowship Award.
A strong advocate for global surgery, Professor Ntirenganya is deeply committed to advancing equitable access to safe and high-quality surgical care in low- and middle-income settings. His research interests include cancer research, particularly breast cancer, global surgery and health systems strengthening, and medical education with emphasis on surgical training.
Through his leadership, scholarship, and clinical expertise, Professor Ntirenganya continues to contribute significantly to the development of surgical education and equitable health service delivery in Rwanda and across Africa.
