Dr. Nitta Beni Chinyama

I am Dr. Nitta Beni Chinyama, Family Medicine physician working at the Malawi ministry of health Headquarters as Deputy Director of Curative and Medical Rehabilitation Services. I also do part-time MMED lecturing at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, department of Family Medicine. I have been working in the public sector since 2008. I hold an MBBS degree obtained from Malawi College of Medicine, university of Malawi in 2008 and an MMED Family Medicine degree obtained in 2021 at Malawi University of Health Sciences. In my current role at the ministry of health, I am responsible for formulation of policies and clinical guidelines for the clinical directorate. A significant part of my portfolio is focusing on improving surgical care delivery systems, expanding access to safe surgery, and integrating surgical services into broader health system strengthening efforts through policy implementation. I am currently the desk officer for NSOAP development and leading the coordination of developing Malawi’s first National Surgical, Obstetric, and Anesthesia Plan (NSOAP)—a strategic initiative aimed at systematically addressing the surgical needs of the population of Malawi while aligning with global surgical care standards.

PASHeF aims to improve surgical healthcare in Africa by bringing together policymakers, clinicians, researchers, and advocates to address issues such as political commitment, health service delivery, and national policies.
