
Dr. Mugisha Ntiyonza Nkoronko
Dr. Mugisha Ntiyonza Nkoronko is a currently practicing General Surgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, Tanzania. A graduate of the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS), he has over five years of surgical experience.
He serves as Quality and Safe Surgery Coordinator at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, Project Lead for the Smile Train Partnership at KCMC, and Tanzania Lead for Surgical Teams Working for Safer Surgery in Africa (SWIFTSS). He is also the sitting President of the Medical Association of Tanzania.
Dr. Mugisha is the Founder and Chairman of the Netcare Foundation, which advances safe surgery through continuous surgical education, including the long-running Surgical Thursday Masterclass and Netcare Surgical Conference. His work extends beyond the operating room into surgical leadership, advocacy, and policy influence across Africa.
An active educator, researcher, and reviewer for regional and international journals, Dr. Mugisha has also been an impactful keynote speaker at healthcare forums and conferences. He is a 2025 PASHeF Policy-to-Practice Accelerator Fellow, committed to driving safe surgery and health system change across Africa.
